What is Anxiety?

  • A feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease
  • All people experience anxiety; it is normal and expected
  • Specific forms of anxiety include separation anxiety, phobias, and social anxiety
  • The Anxiety and Depression Assoc. of America states 1 in 8 adolescents are effected by anxiety disorders lasting greater than 6 months
  • General symptoms can include:
    • Worry
    • Fear
    • Restlessness
    • Fatigue
    • Irritability
    • Difficulty concentrating
    • Sleep disturbance
    • Chest discomfort
  • Early professional help is greatly beneficial
  • Treatment includes psychotherapy, medication, or a combination of both
